Talk2Me Help Guide

How to Change Your Radio Username on PRS, CRS, or HamLink

A radio username is the name or identity other users see when your radio transmits through Public Radio Service (PRS), Community Radio Service (CRS), or HamLink.

Talk2Me may also use the username to identify the radio when providing support, reviewing platform access, or managing account assignments.

Username changes are platform-specific. A radio may use one username on PRS, another on CRS, a verified amateur-radio callsign on HamLink, and a separate unit name on a private network.

PlatformUsername exampleHow changes are handled
PRSPersonal name, unit name, or radio identitySubmit PRS, CRS & HamLink Support
CRSApproved membership or community identitySubmit PRS, CRS & HamLink Support when available and assigned
HamLinkVerified amateur-radio callsignSubmit PRS, CRS & HamLink Support; license verification may be required
Private networkVehicle, department, employee, location, or unit nameAuthorized administrators may use Platform Manager or submit Private Network Support

When a Username Change May Be Needed

Request a username change when:

  • The radio displays the wrong name.
  • The radio still shows a previous owner or user.
  • A business, family, or organization reassigned the radio.
  • A spelling correction is needed.
  • A HamLink callsign is incorrect.
  • The current username is confusing, inappropriate, or no longer useful.
  • The radio needs a clearer vehicle, unit, department, position, or location name.

Identify the Correct Platform

Before submitting the request, confirm whether the change applies to:

  • Public Radio Service (PRS)
  • Community Radio Service (CRS), when available and assigned
  • HamLink
  • More than one Talk2Me platform
  • A Talk2Me private network

Changing the username on one platform does not automatically change the identity used on another platform.

Confirm the currently selected platform

On supported radios with multiple assigned platforms:

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Open Network or the available platform-selection menu.
  3. Review the selected platform.
  4. Return to the main screen and record the username currently displayed.

The Network menu may not appear on radios with only one assigned platform or models that do not support on-device switching.

Do not rely on Network #1 or Network #2 alone. Numbered network labels may vary by radio and configuration. Identify the platform by its displayed name whenever possible.

Information Needed for a Username Change

Provide:

  • Customer or account name
  • Radio model
  • Radio IMEI
  • Current displayed username
  • Requested new username
  • Applicable platform or service
  • Reason for the change
  • Private-network name, when applicable
  • Amateur-radio callsign for HamLink requests
  • Order number or existing support-ticket number, when available

Locate the radio IMEI

Menu wording varies by model. On supported radios, the IMEI may appear under a path such as:

Menu → Settings → Service Information

It may also appear under IMEI Information, About, a product label, the original packaging, or order records.

Do not remove the SIM or open the radio housing solely to locate the IMEI.

Protect device identifiers. Provide the complete IMEI through a private Talk2Me support request. Do not post it publicly.

Choose an Appropriate Username

Choose a username that is:

  • Easy for other users to identify
  • Appropriate for the platform and intended use
  • Short enough to display clearly
  • Different from other usernames when possible
  • Free of unnecessary personal information
  • Suitable for communication with other platform users

Examples

  • Ethan
  • Unit 12
  • Farm Truck
  • Dispatch
  • Security 2
  • Tallahassee Base
  • K4ABC for the verified HamLink operator assigned to that callsign

Avoid usernames that

  • Impersonate another person, company, agency, or organization
  • Contain offensive, threatening, abusive, or disruptive language
  • Include passwords or private account information
  • Contain complete telephone numbers, addresses, or other unnecessary personal information
  • Could reasonably be mistaken for an emergency service or public-safety agency
  • Are excessively long
  • Use symbols or characters unsupported by the platform

Talk2Me may reject or request a revision to a username that violates platform rules, creates confusion, impersonates another party, or is not technically supported.

HamLink is restricted to verified amateur-radio operators.

The displayed HamLink identity may need to match the operator’s verified amateur-radio callsign. Talk2Me may require updated license verification before changing or transferring HamLink access.

Do not request another person’s callsign unless that licensed operator is the verified user or authorized assignee of the radio.

HamLink access and a displayed callsign do not:

  • Grant an amateur-radio license
  • Transfer another operator’s license privileges
  • Authorize UHF/VHF transmission outside the operator’s lawful privileges
  • Automatically transfer when the physical radio is sold or given away

Submit the Username-Change Request

For PRS, CRS, or HamLink, use the PRS, CRS & HamLink Support form.

Select:

  • The applicable service or platform
  • The option for changing or correcting a radio username

Include the current username and requested replacement clearly in the request description.

Requests involving multiple radios

Provide a separate list or table containing:

  • Each radio IMEI
  • Current username
  • Requested username
  • Applicable platform
  • Private-network name or callsign when relevant
Radio IMEICurrent usernameRequested usernamePlatform
Enter IMEICurrent nameNew namePRS, CRS, or HamLink

Do not create multiple tickets for the same request. Continue using the existing ticket until the change is completed.

After Talk2Me Completes the Change

  1. Turn the radio off.
  2. Wait approximately 15 seconds.
  3. Turn the radio back on.
  4. Allow up to approximately two minutes for it to reconnect.
  5. Confirm that the intended platform is selected.
  6. Confirm that the new username appears.
  7. Make a brief test transmission when appropriate.

A username may not update immediately when the radio is Offline, out of coverage, disconnected from supported Wi-Fi, or has not refreshed its platform connection.

The Old Username Still Appears

  1. Confirm that Talk2Me approved and completed the requested change.
  2. Restart the radio once.
  3. Confirm that the correct platform is selected.
  4. Move to an area with working cellular data or supported Wi-Fi.
  5. Allow several minutes for synchronization.
  6. Check whether the old username appears only on one platform.
  7. Confirm that the correct IMEI was included in the request.
  8. Reply to the existing support ticket with a photograph or screenshot of the displayed username.

Do not factory-reset the radio. A reset may remove Talk2Me applications, platform settings, cellular configuration, groups, and account information without correcting the username.

Purchased or Received a Used Radio

Submit a support request when a used or transferred radio still displays another customer’s username.

Include:

  • Proof of purchase or authorized transfer
  • Radio model
  • Radio IMEI
  • Current username
  • Requested username
  • Platform requiring the change
  • HamLink license information when applicable

Talk2Me may need to verify ownership, platform eligibility, account status, SIM status, private-network authority, and licensing before changing or transferring access.

Physical possession of a radio does not automatically transfer its platform accounts, usernames, SIM service, private-network access, or optional subscriptions.

Private-Network Username Changes

Authorized private-network administrators may be able to update supported usernames through:

Platform Manager → My User → User List → Edit

Access Platform Manager at:

Talk2Me Private Network Platform Manager

After saving the change:

  1. Restart the affected radio.
  2. Allow it time to reconnect.
  3. Confirm that the private network is selected.
  4. Verify the updated username.
  5. Complete a brief test transmission when appropriate.

Submit Private Network Support when:

  • The Edit option is unavailable.
  • The username cannot be saved.
  • The radio is missing from User List.
  • The change does not appear after restarting.
  • The radio must be transferred between private networks.
  • The administrator does not have the required authority or access.

Still Need Help?

Submit:

  • PRS, CRS & HamLink Support for shared-platform username changes
  • Private Network Support for private-network usernames or Platform Manager assistance

Include the radio model, IMEI, current username, requested username, applicable platform, and existing ticket number.

Never include an account password, Platform Manager password, Wi-Fi password, or payment information in a username-change request.
