Identify and Inspect The Standard Plus
Confirm that the radio or order documentation specifically identifies the product as The Standard Plus. The Standard and The Standard Plus are different products and may use different menus, accessories, and instructions.
What may be included
Depending on the package purchased, the box may include:
- Standard Plus radio
- Rechargeable battery
- Charger, charging cable, or charging dock
- Belt clip and lanyard
- Programming cable
- Earpiece or another ordered accessory
- Manual insert or QR code
- Preinstalled SIM card
Review the product listing, order confirmation, quote, invoice, and packing slip for the contents included with your order. Check every box, insert, cardboard divider, and packaging compartment before reporting an item missing.
Inspect the radio before use
Before charging or powering on the radio, check for:
- Cracked housing, damaged display, or damaged controls
- Bent or loose charging port
- Loose battery or exposed wiring
- Swollen, leaking, punctured, cracked, or unusually hot battery
- Severe shipping damage or liquid exposure
- Burning or chemical odor
Battery safety
Do not charge or operate a radio with a damaged or unsafe battery. Keep the packaging and contact Talk2Me Support when the radio arrives damaged.
Charge and Power On the Radio
Charge the radio
Use only charging equipment supplied with the radio or approved for The Standard Plus.
- Connect the approved charging cable, adapter, or dock.
- Place the radio securely in the dock or connect the charging cable.
- Confirm that a charging indicator appears.
- Allow the battery to charge before extended use.
- Confirm that the displayed battery level increases.
Do not substitute an unapproved charger merely because the connector fits. An incompatible charger may use the wrong voltage, current, polarity, wiring, charging protocol, or connector configuration.
Stop charging and contact Talk2Me when the battery swells, the radio becomes excessively hot, the charger sparks, a cable melts or discolors, a burning odor appears, the charging port becomes loose, or the battery level does not increase.
Power on the radio
- Confirm that the battery is installed and charged.
- Press and hold the power button.
- Wait for the radio to start.
- Allow up to approximately two minutes for cellular registration and Talk2Me platform connection.
- Confirm that signal, network, username, and group information appear.
Do not repeatedly restart the radio while it is completing its initial connection.
Controls and Push-to-Talk Operation
| Control | Common use |
|---|---|
| Green button | Open the menu, select an item, confirm a choice, save certain settings, or select OK |
| Red button | Go back, exit a menu, or return to the main screen |
| Arrow buttons | Move through menus, networks, groups, settings, and password characters |
| Volume + | Adjust volume; during Wi-Fi password entry, cycle keyboard modes |
| Volume − | Adjust volume; during Wi-Fi password entry, open the “Sure to Save” confirmation |
| Side PTT button | Transmit to the selected Talk2Me group |
Transmit a message
- Confirm that the radio shows online.
- Confirm the intended Talk2Me network and group.
- Press and hold the side PTT button.
- Wait a brief moment before speaking.
- Speak clearly toward the microphone.
- Release PTT when finished.
Only one user can generally speak in a group at a time. Waiting briefly before speaking helps prevent the first word from being cut off.
Select a Talk2Me Network and Group
Select a network
A Standard Plus may be assigned to more than one Talk2Me platform. Names shown on the radio depend on its configuration and may include PRS, CRS, HamLink, a private-network name, Public, Network #1, or Network #2.
- Press the green button to open the menu.
- Use the arrow buttons to locate Network.
- Press the green button.
- Highlight the intended network.
- Press the green button to confirm.
- Allow the radio time to reconnect.
- Confirm that the expected groups appear.
Do not transmit on an unfamiliar private network. Contact Talk2Me promptly if another customer’s network, username, or groups appear.
Select a group
- Open the main menu using the green button.
- Select Groups.
- Use the arrow buttons to browse available groups.
- Highlight the intended group.
- Press the green button to confirm.
- Return to the main screen and confirm that the group name appears.
- Complete a short radio check.
Contact Talk2Me when no groups appear, a required group is missing, an unfamiliar group appears, the selection will not save, or radios assigned to the same private network show different group lists.
Connect The Standard Plus to Wi-Fi
The Standard Plus may refer to Wi-Fi as WLAN. Wi-Fi can provide an alternative internet connection when cellular signal is weak or unavailable.
1. Turn WLAN on
- Press the green button to open the main menu.
- Select Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Select WLAN.
- Use the arrow buttons to select ON.
- Press the green button to confirm.
- Press the red button to return to the main Wi-Fi screen.
Wi-Fi is now enabled, but the radio must still scan for and connect to a network.
2. Scan for a network
- From the Wi-Fi screen, highlight Scanning Network.
- Press the green button.
- Wait while the radio scans.
- Highlight the intended Wi-Fi network name (SSID).
- Press the green button to select it.
Confirm that the router is powered on, the radio is within range, the correct network is selected, and the network does not require a browser-based sign-in page.
3. Enter the Wi-Fi password
- Highlight Password.
- Press the green button.
- Locate the white password-entry box.
- Use the Volume + button to choose the required keyboard mode.
Keyboard sequence: 123 → abc → ABC → EN → CN → 123
- 123 for numbers
- abc for lowercase letters
- ABC for uppercase letters
- Right Arrow to move forward through available characters
- Left Arrow to move backward
- Green button to confirm a character and move to the next space
Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive
Password123, password123, and PASSWORD123 are different passwords.
4. Save the password
- After entering the complete password, press the Volume − button.
- Wait for Sure to Save.
- Press the green button to confirm.
- Wait for the radio to return to the Wi-Fi network or SSID screen.
Do not press the red button before saving unless you intend to cancel the entry.
5. Connect to the network
- Highlight Connect.
- Press the green button.
- When the radio asks Are you sure to Connect?, highlight OK.
- Press the green button.
- Wait for the connection to complete.
- Look for the Wi-Fi icon near the upper-left corner of the screen.
- Return to the main screen and allow the Talk2Me platform time to show online.
- Complete a radio check.
A connected green Wi-Fi icon generally indicates that the radio has connected to the selected access point.
Wi-Fi troubleshooting
Wi-Fi icon has a red line
A red line generally indicates that the saved Wi-Fi connection is not operating correctly. The radio may be out of range, the router may be off, the password may be incorrect, the access point may no longer exist, or the network may block the Talk2Me connection.
Target AP Not Found
- Confirm that the router is powered on.
- Move closer to the router.
- Confirm that the network name has not changed.
- Run Scanning Network again.
- Select the network from the new scan and try again.
Connection Fail
- Select Connect again.
- Verify the selected network.
- Check every uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number, and special character in the password.
- Move closer to the router.
- When the problem continues, delete the saved network, scan again, re-enter the password, save it, and reconnect.
Do not send your Wi-Fi password to Talk2Me Support.
Wi-Fi connects but the radio remains offline
A Wi-Fi icon does not guarantee that the network provides usable internet access. Browser acceptance pages, captive portals, firewalls, and school, hotel, hospital, government, or business restrictions may block the radio.
- Restart the radio once.
- Confirm the correct Talk2Me network and group.
- Confirm that another device can access the internet through the same Wi-Fi.
- Test another known-working Wi-Fi network.
- Test cellular service in another location.
Do not factory-reset the radio.
Manage saved Wi-Fi networks
From the Wi-Fi menu, select Management preservation network. The wording is unusual because of the radio’s software translation. This area may allow you to edit the SSID or password, connect, delete a saved network, or add another network.
Delete a saved network
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi.
- Select Management preservation network.
- Highlight the saved network.
- Select Delete and confirm.
- Return to Scanning Network.
- Scan, select the network, re-enter the password, save, and connect.
Turn Wi-Fi off
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi → WLAN.
- Select OFF and confirm.
- Return to the main screen.
- Wait for the 4G or cellular antenna icon to return.
The radio still requires active cellular service and compatible coverage. Turning Wi-Fi off does not renew or reactivate an expired SIM.
Wi-Fi does not:
- Renew a SIM subscription or activate a suspended SIM
- Create cellular coverage
- Convert the radio into a telephone
- Provide 911 calling through Talk2Me PoC service
- Guarantee operation through every public or managed Wi-Fi network
Pair and Manage Bluetooth Accessories
The Standard Plus can pair with compatible Bluetooth earpieces, headsets, speakers, and other supported audio devices. Compatibility is not guaranteed for every third-party accessory.
Before pairing, charge the accessory, review its instructions, disconnect it from other devices, place it close to the radio, and put it into pairing mode.
Enable Bluetooth
- Press the green button to open the main menu.
- Select Settings.
- Use the Left Arrow to move upward until Bluetooth is highlighted.
- Press the green button.
- Select ON/OFF.
- Select ON and confirm.
- Press the red button to return to the Bluetooth List.
Pair a Bluetooth device
- Put the accessory into pairing mode.
- Open the Bluetooth List.
- Highlight Scan and press the green button.
- Wait for the radio to find nearby devices.
- Highlight the intended device and press the green button.
- Confirm the pairing request with OK.
- Wait for Connection Successful.
- Return to the main screen and test receiving, transmitting, accessory volume, and microphone operation.
An accessory may support listening without supporting microphone audio or Bluetooth push-to-talk.
One Bluetooth device at a time
The Standard Plus generally allows one connected Bluetooth device at a time. Remove or unbind the current accessory before pairing another.
Unbind a Bluetooth device
- Open the Bluetooth List.
- Select Connected Devices.
- Highlight the device to remove.
- Press and hold the green button.
- While continuing to hold the green button, press and hold the Right Arrow for several seconds.
- Wait for Are you sure to delete?.
- Select OK.
- Confirm that the screen displays Delete Success.
The normal green-button selection alone may not open the deletion prompt.
Bluetooth troubleshooting
Device does not appear during scan
- Confirm that the accessory is powered on, charged, and in pairing mode.
- Place it close to the radio.
- Disconnect it from phones, computers, and other radios.

Feedback between nearby radios on the same group does not necessarily indicate a defect.
Battery drains quickly
Weak signal, repeated network searching, continuous Wi-Fi or Bluetooth use, high screen brightness, GPS use, frequent transmissions, high speaker volume, battery age, and extreme temperatures can increase battery use.
- Fully charge the radio.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when they are not needed.
- Reduce screen brightness.
- Test in an area with stronger cellular signal.
- Record the starting level, ending level, elapsed time, and approximate use.
Stop using a battery that is swollen, leaking, punctured, cracked, or unusually hot.
Radio will not power on
- Connect the approved charger.
- Allow the radio to charge for at least 30 minutes.
- Confirm that the battery is secure and a charging indicator appears.
- Press and hold the power button.
- Inspect the battery and charging equipment.
- Test another approved Standard Plus charger or battery when available.
Contact Talk2Me when the battery is unsafe, the radio becomes hot, the charging indicator does not appear, the power button is damaged, the radio was dropped or exposed to liquid, or approved charging equipment does not resolve the issue.
Radio repeatedly restarts
- Turn Bluetooth off and disconnect wired accessories.
- Remove the radio from the charging dock.
- Confirm that the battery is secure and charge it with approved equipment.
- Restart the radio once.
- Observe whether restarting occurs only while charging, connecting to Wi-Fi, using Bluetooth, or transmitting.
Do not factory-reset the radio. Record a video when safe and submit a support request.
Incorrect username, network, or groups
Do not transmit on unfamiliar groups. Record the radio IMEI, SIM ICCID, displayed username, network, group names, order number, private-network name, and a photograph of the screen. Contact Talk2Me promptly when another customer’s information appears.
Safety and Service Limitations
Do not factory-reset The Standard Plus
A factory reset may remove or disrupt Talk2Me software, platform assignments, network and group information, cellular configuration, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings, the username, and required background services. A reset may leave the radio unable to communicate until it is reconfigured.
Do not remove or swap the SIM
The installed SIM may be associated with the radio IMEI, cellular plan, Talk2Me platform account, renewal record, and customer configuration. Do not remove it, move it to another radio, change SIM slots, install another SIM, cut or resize it, or change APN settings unless Talk2Me Support instructs you to do so.
Do not install unauthorized software
Do not root the radio, install unsupported applications, change firmware, disable Talk2Me services, use unauthorized programming software, alter protected engineering settings, open the housing, or attempt an internal repair. Unauthorized changes may prevent operation and may affect warranty eligibility.
Emergency-service limitation
Talk2Me PoC service cannot call 911. It does not place ordinary telephone calls, receive calls from standard telephone numbers, connect to public-safety dispatch, replace a cellular telephone, or guarantee emergency communication. Maintain another approved method of contacting emergency services.
