The Talk2Me Ultra Mini is a compact handheld push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) radio designed for customers who want a smaller and lighter communication device. It communicates through cellular data and the Talk2Me platform, and most radios are configured for their assigned services before shipment.
Important
Do not factory-reset the radio, remove or move its SIM card, change cellular or APN settings, install unsupported software, use unauthorized programming equipment, or open the radio housing unless Talk2Me Support specifically instructs you to do so.
| Connectivity | Cellular data through the Talk2Me PoC platform |
| Talk2Me platforms | Public Radio Service (PRS), Community Radio Service (CRS) when available and assigned, HamLink, private networks, or more than one assigned platform |

Identify and Inspect the Ultra Mini
The radio may be identified in product or order records as Ultra Mini, 26 Ultra Mini, Talk2Me Ultra Mini, or Ultra Mini PoC Radio.
The Ultra Mini is different from The Standard, The Standard Plus, The Pro, Talk2Me Rescue radios, and Talk2Me Mobile Base radios. Instructions for another model may not match its buttons, battery, charger, accessory connections, menu arrangement, or available features.
Check the product packaging, order confirmation, radio label, or Service Information screen when you are unsure which model you have.
Common features
- Compact handheld PoC design
- Cellular-data connectivity and Talk2Me platform access
- Group communication and radio username or identity
- Rechargeable battery
- Built-in speaker and microphone
- Push-to-talk button, display, and menu controls
- Preinstalled cellular SIM
- Compatible charging equipment
Available features and platform access depend on the hardware revision, customer order, and Talk2Me account configuration.
No GPS or SOS feature
The 26 Ultra Mini does not include GPS or SOS.
It should not be expected to provide GPS location reporting, platform-based tracking, SOS-button alerts, dispatcher location information, or GPS history. The absence of these features is not a defect.
Do not rely on the Ultra Mini for location tracking or emergency-alert functions. Talk2Me PoC service also cannot contact 911. Maintain an approved telephone or another appropriate method of contacting emergency services.
What may be included
Depending on the purchased package, the box may include:
- Ultra Mini radio and rechargeable battery
- Charging cable, power adapter, or charging dock
- Belt clip and lanyard
- Programming cable
- Earpiece or another ordered accessory
- Preinstalled SIM card
- Manual insert or QR code
Compare the contents with the product listing, order confirmation, quote, invoice, and packing slip. Check every box, insert, divider, and packaging compartment before reporting an item missing.
Inspect the equipment before use
Before charging or powering on the radio, check for:
- Cracked housing, damaged display, loose controls, or exposed wiring
- Loose battery or bent, loose, or damaged charging port
- Swollen, leaking, punctured, cracked, or unusually hot battery
- Liquid exposure or severe shipping damage
- Burning or chemical odor
Do not charge or operate equipment that appears unsafe. Keep all packaging, take clear photographs, and submit Warranty, Return & Repair Support before shipping anything back.
Charging and Battery Use
The Ultra Mini uses a smaller battery than Talk2Me’s larger handheld radios. Charge it before placing it into normal service, and use only equipment included with the Ultra Mini, specifically approved for it, or confirmed compatible by Talk2Me.
Charge the radio
- Inspect the radio, battery, charger, cable, and dock when included.
- Connect the approved charging equipment.
- Place the radio in the dock or connect the approved cable.
- Confirm that a charging indicator appears.
- Allow the battery to charge.
- Confirm that the displayed battery level increases.
Do not substitute another charger merely because its connector fits. An incompatible charger may use the wrong voltage, current, polarity, wiring, charging protocol, or connector configuration.
Stop charging and contact Talk2Me when the radio becomes excessively hot, the battery swells or leaks, the charger sparks, the cable melts or discolors, a burning odor appears, the port becomes loose, or the battery level does not increase.
Battery life
Because the Ultra Mini uses a smaller battery, its operating time may be shorter than that of a full-size Talk2Me handheld. Actual battery life depends on:
- Number and length of transmissions
- Cellular signal strength and repeated network searching
- Screen brightness and activity
- Speaker volume
- Battery age and temperature
- Accessory use and time spent powered on
- Local network conditions
Weak coverage may increase battery use because the radio repeatedly searches for or maintains a cellular connection. Published standby or battery estimates are not guarantees of actual operating time.
Extend battery life
- Fully charge the radio before extended use.
- Reduce screen brightness and unnecessary screen activity when supported.
- Use a comfortable rather than maximum speaker volume.
- Keep transmissions brief.
- Turn the radio off when it will not be used.
- Use it where cellular signal is stronger when possible.
- Avoid extreme heat and cold.
- Disconnect unnecessary accessories.
- Replace an aged or degraded battery when appropriate.
Businesses and frequent users may benefit from a second charging location, a confirmed-compatible spare battery, a second Ultra Mini, or a larger Talk2Me model for extended shifts. Confirm compatibility before ordering replacement batteries or chargers.
Battery safety
Do not use a battery that is swollen, leaking, punctured, cracked, unusually hot, producing a chemical odor, damaged at the contacts, or unable to remain securely attached.
Do not crush, disassemble, short, burn, submerge, leave in a hot vehicle, carry loose with metal objects, or replace it with an unapproved battery. Do not ship a damaged lithium battery without specific instructions from Talk2Me or an authorized carrier.
Startup, Online Status, and Radio Identifiers
Power on the Ultra Mini
- Confirm that the battery is installed and charged.
- Press and hold the power button.
- Wait for the radio to start.
- Allow it to register with the cellular network.
- Allow the Talk2Me platform to connect.
- Confirm the expected username, network, and group.
Connection may take up to approximately two minutes after startup and may take longer after recent activation, extended nonuse, weak signal, restored SIM service, movement between coverage areas, or account synchronization. Do not repeatedly restart the radio while it is connecting.
Confirm that the radio is online
A connected Ultra Mini may display cellular signal, online or idle status, username, selected network, selected group, battery level, and other status icons.
Signal bars do not prove that Talk2Me service is connected. They do not necessarily confirm active cellular data, current SIM service, platform connection, correct network selection, or correct group assignment.
Find the IMEI
The IMEI identifies the radio hardware. It may appear on the packaging, radio label, beneath the battery, in About, System Information, Service Information, an IMEI screen, or a QR-code screen.
Do not confuse the IMEI with the SIM ICCID, username, group name, order number, or platform account number.
Find the SIM ICCID
The ICCID identifies the installed cellular SIM. On supported menu versions, open:
Menu → Settings → Service Information
The screen may show the SIM operator, SIM slot, ICCID, radio username, current group, and other service details. Do not remove the SIM solely to locate its ICCID when the number is available through the menu.
Do not publish the complete IMEI or ICCID publicly.
Networks and Groups
Select a Talk2Me network
An Ultra Mini may be assigned to one or more Talk2Me platforms. Names depend on its configuration and may include Public Radio Service, PRS, CRS, HamLink, Public, Network #1, Network #2, a private-network name, or another assigned Talk2Me service.
- Open the main radio menu.
- Locate and open Network.
- Highlight the intended network.
- Confirm the selection.
- Return to the main screen.
- Allow the radio time to reconnect.
- Confirm that the expected groups appear.
Do not transmit on an unfamiliar private network. Contact Talk2Me promptly if another customer’s username, network, or group information appears.
Select a group
- Confirm the correct Talk2Me network.
- Open the main menu and select Groups.
- Review the available group list.
- Highlight and confirm the intended group.
- Return to the main screen.
- Confirm that the group name appears.
- Complete a short radio check.
A radio may show online but remain unable to communicate when no group is selected or assigned. Contact Talk2Me when no groups appear, a required group is missing, an unfamiliar group appears, the selection will not save, the radio was recently replaced, or radios on the same private network show different group lists.
Push-to-Talk, Radio Checks, and Member Calls
Transmit with push-to-talk
- Confirm that the radio is online.
- Confirm the intended Talk2Me network and group.
- Listen briefly for another transmission.
- Press and hold the PTT button.
- Wait a brief moment.
- Speak clearly toward the microphone.
- Release PTT when finished.
For clearer communication, hold the radio several inches from your mouth, speak normally, avoid covering the microphone, keep transmissions brief, and release PTT so another user can respond. Only one user can generally transmit in a group at a time.
Complete a radio check
- Power on each radio and allow each one to show online.
- Confirm that they use the same Talk2Me network and group.
- Separate the radios and reduce speaker volume.
- Transmit a short message from the first radio.
- Release PTT and respond from the second radio.
- Confirm clear audio in both directions.
Nearby radios on the same group may create loud feedback. Close-range feedback does not necessarily indicate a defect.
Supported one-to-one member calls
Some software versions may provide a Members menu for direct PoC communication with another supported user.
- Open the menu and select Members.
- Browse the available users.
- Confirm that the intended member shows online.
- Select the member.
- Press and hold PTT, speak, and release PTT when finished.
Member calling may be unavailable when the user is offline, Single Call is disabled, the platform does not permit it, the radio is on the wrong network, the users are not in the same supported environment, or the account is restricted. A member call is PoC communication, not a telephone call.
Menus, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Accessories
Display and menu options
Available options vary by software and account configuration. Possible items include Groups, Members, Network, Settings, About, Service Information, Battery Information, and System Information.
Possible settings may include display brightness, screen timeout, speaker volume, PTT prompt tone, keypad tone, keypad lock, voice prompts, power saving, signal information, SIM information, service details, IMEI information, APN, factory reset, and Single Call.
Do not change unfamiliar, cellular, or protected system settings merely because they appear in the menu.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Do not assume that Standard Plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth instructions apply to the Ultra Mini. Use either feature only when it appears on the exact Ultra Mini hardware revision, is documented for that revision, or Talk2Me confirms support.
Do not use another radio model’s button sequence to change Ultra Mini settings.
Use an earpiece or audio accessory
- Confirm that the accessory is intended for the Ultra Mini.
- Inspect the plug and radio port.
- Insert it gently.
- Test received audio.
- Test microphone audio and accessory PTT when applicable.
- Confirm that built-in radio audio returns after disconnection.
A third-party accessory may not work merely because the connector fits. Accessory wiring, audio operation, and PTT configuration may differ.
Stop using an accessory that causes restarts, excessive heat, audio failure, unexpected transmitting, electrical noise, a loose connection, or physical damage.
Troubleshooting
The Ultra Mini will not power on
- Connect the approved charging equipment.
- Allow the battery to charge for at least 30 minutes.
- Confirm that the battery is securely installed.
- Confirm that a charging indicator appears.
- Press and hold the power button.
- Inspect the radio, battery, cable, and charger.
- Test another approved Ultra Mini charger or battery when available.
Contact Talk2Me if the battery is swollen, the radio becomes excessively hot, the charging indicator does not appear, the power button is damaged, the radio was dropped or exposed to liquid, or approved charging equipment does not resolve the problem.
The Ultra Mini will not charge
- Confirm that the outlet works and approved equipment is being used.
- Confirm that the cable is fully connected and the correct port is being used.
- Reseat the radio in the dock and align the charging contacts.
- Confirm that the battery is securely attached.
Do not force a connector, insert metal tools into a port, use an unknown charger, use another model’s dock without confirming compatibility, or continue charging an overheating battery.

- Wait up to approximately two minutes after startup.
- Confirm that airplane mode is off.
- Check cellular signal.
- Move near a window or outdoors.
- Restart the radio once.
- Test it in another location.
- Confirm the correct Talk2Me network and group.
- Confirm that SIM service has not expired.
- Record the exact message displayed.
Do not remove the SIM or change APN settings.
Signal appears but the radio remains Offline
Possible causes include expired or suspended SIM service, unavailable cellular data, a disconnected Talk2Me account, incorrect network selection, platform interruption, account configuration trouble, or cellular configuration trouble.
Submit Radio & Connection Support with the IMEI, ICCID, username, selected network, selected group, approximate location, exact error message, and a photograph of the screen.
The Ultra Mini shows No Service
- Move outdoors or to another location.
- Restart the radio once and wait up to approximately two minutes.
- Confirm that airplane mode is off.
- Check whether another Talk2Me radio has service nearby.
- Confirm that the SIM plan remains active.
Coverage may vary because of carrier availability, terrain, buildings, indoor construction, congestion, outages, maintenance, and radio location. The Ultra Mini cannot create cellular coverage where no supported network is available.
The Ultra Mini shows No SIM
- Do not immediately open the SIM compartment.
- Restart the radio once.
- Open Service Information when available.
- Check whether an ICCID and operator appear.
- Record the active SIM slot when shown.
- Photograph the No SIM message.
Contact Talk2Me before removing, reseating, replacing, or moving the SIM.
No groups appear
- Confirm the selected Talk2Me network.
- Open Groups again and allow the list to load.
- Restart the radio once.
- Confirm the displayed username.
- Confirm whether the radio was recently added or replaced.
- Confirm whether the private-network group was recently created.
Private-network administrators may review assignments through Platform Manager. Do not create duplicate groups solely because one radio cannot see an existing group.
The Ultra Mini cannot transmit
- Confirm that the radio shows online and the correct network and group are selected.
- Confirm that another user is not already transmitting.
- Hold PTT while speaking and wait briefly before talking.
- Disconnect audio accessories.
- Restart the radio once.
- Test the built-in microphone, another authorized group, and a known working Talk2Me radio.
- Observe whether a transmit tone or indicator appears.
The Ultra Mini cannot receive
- Check speaker volume, accessory connection, selected network, group, and online status.
- Confirm whether another user can transmit and whether menu tones can be heard.
- Disconnect the audio accessory.
- Increase the volume gradually.
- Restart the radio once.
- Test another authorized group and another known working radio.
Audio is distorted or cutting out
Possible causes include weak signal, network congestion, speaking too close to the microphone, excessive volume, a damaged or loose accessory, speaker or microphone damage, or internet-routing delay.
- Move to another location.
- Disconnect optional accessories.
- Reduce speaker volume.
- Restart the radio once.
- Wait briefly after pressing PTT before speaking.
- Test with another Talk2Me radio.
- Determine whether the problem affects transmitting, receiving, or both.
Battery drains too quickly
Compare battery life with expected compact-radio performance rather than with a full-size Talk2Me model.
- Fully charge the radio.
- Reduce screen brightness and use an appropriate power-saving mode when available.
- Test in an area with stronger signal.
- Disconnect unnecessary accessories.
- Record the starting and ending battery levels, elapsed time, and approximate use.
Replacement may be needed when the battery no longer reaches a full charge, drains rapidly during light use, causes unexpected shutdowns, is physically damaged, or has significantly degraded with age.
The Ultra Mini repeatedly restarts
- Disconnect any earpiece or accessory.
- Remove the radio from the charger.
- Confirm that the battery is securely installed.
- Charge it using approved equipment.
- Restart it once.
- Observe whether restarting occurs only while charging or transmitting.
Do not factory-reset the radio. Record a video when safe and submit a support request.
The radios create loud feedback
Feedback commonly occurs when radios on the same group are close together. Separate the radios, reduce speaker volume, point speakers away from microphones, transmit from one radio at a time, and release PTT before the other user responds.
Incorrect username, network, or groups appear
Do not transmit on unfamiliar private groups. Record the IMEI, ICCID, displayed username, network, groups, order number, private-network name, and a photograph of the screen. Contact Talk2Me promptly when another customer’s information appears.
Safety and Service Limitations
Do not factory-reset the Ultra Mini
A reset may remove or disrupt Talk2Me software, platform assignments, networks, groups, cellular configuration, username, required background services, and other customer-specific settings. It may leave the radio unable to communicate until reconfigured.
Do not remove or swap the SIM
The installed SIM may be associated with the radio IMEI, cellular plan, Talk2Me platform account, renewal record, and customer configuration. Do not remove it, move it to another radio, change slots, install another SIM, cut or resize it, or change APN settings unless Talk2Me Support instructs you to do so.
Do not install unauthorized software or open the radio
Do not root the radio, install unsupported applications, change firmware, disable Talk2Me services, use unauthorized programming software, alter protected engineering settings, open the housing, or attempt an internal repair. Unauthorized changes may prevent communication and affect warranty eligibility.
Emergency-service limitation
The Ultra Mini’s Talk2Me PoC service cannot call 911. It does not place ordinary telephone calls, receive calls from standard phone numbers, connect to public-safety dispatch, replace a cellular telephone, or guarantee emergency communication. It also does not provide GPS or SOS. Maintain another approved method of contacting emergency services.
