Use these steps when a radio cannot connect to Public Radio Service (PRS), Community Radio Service (CRS), or HamLink; displays Offline or Searching Network; or cannot communicate through an assigned group.
Start by identifying the scope of the problem. Note whether the entire radio is Offline, one platform or group is missing, audio works in only one direction, one radio is affected, or several radios stopped working at the same time.
| What you see | Likely area to check |
|---|---|
| Offline or Searching Network | Cellular or Wi-Fi connection, SIM status, signal, account configuration, or platform availability |
| Platform is missing | Platform assignment, account synchronization, HamLink verification, or model-specific menu behavior |
| Groups are missing | Selected platform, group assignment, permissions, verification, or synchronization |
| Can hear but cannot transmit | PTT operation, transmit permissions, selected group, account status, or microphone accessory |
| Can transmit but cannot hear | Volume, audio accessory, selected group, receive audio, or other users’ status |

Identify the Problem
Before changing settings, determine which description best matches the issue:
- The entire radio appears Offline.
- The radio remains on Searching Network.
- The platform is selected but no groups appear.
- The radio can hear but cannot transmit.
- The radio can transmit but cannot hear.
- Only one group is affected.
- Only one radio is affected.
- Several radios are affected at the same time.
- The problem began after a SIM renewal, username change, group change, or account update.
This helps separate a radio or accessory problem from a cellular-service, platform-account, or group-configuration issue.
Confirm That the Radio Is Online
- Make sure the radio is powered on.
- Allow up to approximately two minutes after startup for connection and synchronization.
- Look for cellular signal bars, a Wi-Fi indicator, or another network indicator.
- Confirm that the battery has sufficient charge or that external power is stable.
- Move outdoors or closer to a window when cellular signal is weak.
- Test the radio in another location when possible.
- Confirm that the radio displays an Online or connected status rather than relying only on signal bars.
Signal bars do not prove platform connectivity. A radio may show cellular signal while SIM service is expired, cellular data is unavailable, or the PRS, CRS, or HamLink account is not connected.
Test supported Wi-Fi when available
On a compatible model, supported Wi-Fi may help determine whether the problem is limited to cellular service.
Wi-Fi does not renew an expired SIM or repair a suspended cellular account. Some public, school, hotel, hospital, business, or government networks may also block the traffic required by the radio.
Restart the Radio
- Press and hold the Power button until the radio begins shutting down.
- Allow it to turn off completely.
- Wait approximately 15 seconds.
- Turn the radio back on.
- Allow up to approximately two minutes for reconnection.
- Check the platform and group again.
A normal restart may refresh cellular registration, platform synchronization, and group information.
Restarting is not the same as a factory reset. Do not factory-reset the radio as a general troubleshooting step.
Check the Selected Platform
On compatible radios with more than one assigned platform:
- Press Menu.
- Select Network or the available platform-selection option.
- Highlight PRS, Public, CRS, HamLink, or the applicable assigned platform.
- Press OK or the green confirmation button.
- Confirm that the selected platform is marked or checked.
- Return to the main screen.
- Allow the radio time to reconnect.
The displayed platform name may vary depending on the radio and its account configuration.
Do not rely on Network #1 or Network #2 alone. Numbered labels can vary by radio. Confirm the actual platform name whenever possible.
When the Network menu does not appear
A Network option may be unavailable when:
- The radio has only one assigned platform.
- The model does not support on-device platform switching.
- The platform is selected through another control or menu.
- The radio connects directly to its assigned account.
The absence of a Network menu does not automatically indicate a defect.
Check the Selected Group or Talkgroup
- Press Menu.
- Select Group.
- Review the available groups or talkgroups.
- Highlight the intended group.
- Press OK or the green confirmation button.
- Confirm that the group name appears on the main screen.
- Wait briefly for the change to synchronize.
- Make a short test transmission when appropriate.
A radio may be connected to PRS, CRS, or HamLink but unable to communicate with the intended users when the wrong group is selected.
Check the SIM Service
When using cellular data, confirm that:
- The cellular-data service has not expired or been suspended.
- A recent renewal was applied to the correct SIM ICCID.
- Compatible cellular coverage is available.
- The radio was restarted after the renewal.
- The correct SIM slot remains selected on a supported dual-SIM model.
Talk2Me radios normally ship with a preinstalled SIM. The SIM may be associated with the radio, plan, renewal record, and customer configuration.
Do not remove, replace, move, cut, or resize the SIM. Do not change APN or cellular settings unless Talk2Me Support provides exact instructions.
Problem began after renewal
- Confirm that the renewal payment completed successfully.
- Confirm that the ICCID entered for the renewal matches the SIM in the affected radio.
- Restart the radio.
- Allow time for cellular service and platform access to restore.
- Test outdoors or in another known coverage area.
A SIM renewal restores eligible cellular service; it does not repair hardware, antenna, software, platform-assignment, or group-permission problems.
Platform Is Missing From the Network Menu
PRS, CRS, or HamLink may be missing when:
- The platform was not assigned to that radio.
- The radio is using another platform account.
- A recent account change has not synchronized.
- CRS is not currently available or assigned to the account.
- HamLink license verification has not been completed or maintained.
- Access was suspended, removed, or transferred.
- The radio configuration requires review.
- The model does not provide on-device platform switching.
- Restart the radio once.
- Allow several minutes for synchronization.
- Open the Network menu again when the model supports it.
- Confirm that cellular data or supported Wi-Fi is working.
- Check whether the platform is the radio’s only assigned account and therefore not shown in a switching menu.
Submit a PRS, CRS & HamLink Support request when the expected platform still does not appear.
Groups or Talkgroups Are Missing
A group may be unavailable because:
- The wrong platform is selected.
- The radio is not assigned to the group.
- HamLink eligibility, license verification, or approval is incomplete.
- The group was renamed, removed, or temporarily unavailable.
- The account lacks permission.
- Recent changes have not synchronized.
- The radio is Offline.
- The group is available only on another assigned platform.
- Confirm the correct platform.
- Restart the radio once.
- Allow several minutes for synchronization.
- Confirm working cellular data or supported Wi-Fi.
- Open the Group menu again.
- Check whether the group appears under another assigned platform.
Not every radio on the same platform will necessarily display the same groups. Group availability depends on account assignments and permissions.
Troubleshoot Transmit and Receive Audio
Radio can hear but cannot transmit
Confirm that:
- The intended platform and group are selected.
- The radio shows Online.
- The PTT button is held while speaking.
- You wait a brief moment after pressing PTT.
- Another user is not already transmitting.
- The account is active and not suspended.
- The group permits the radio to transmit.
- An external microphone, headset, or PTT accessory is not causing the issue.
Disconnect external audio accessories and test the radio’s built-in microphone. Test another available group to determine whether the problem affects one group or the entire platform.
Radio can transmit but cannot hear
- Increase the radio volume.
- Disconnect and reconnect any earpiece or headset.
- Confirm that the intended group is selected.
- Restart the radio once.
- Test another group.
- Confirm that another user is transmitting in the same platform and group.
- Look for a receiving indicator on the display or status light.
On supported models, a solid red indicator may represent transmission and a solid blue indicator may represent reception. Indicator behavior varies by model.
Only one group is affected
When the radio works in other groups, the issue may involve:
- Group-specific transmit permission
- Missing assignment
- A renamed or retired group
- Group-owner or administrator restrictions
- A temporary problem with a linked HamLink system
Record the exact affected group name and the names of groups that continue to work.
Audio Is Delayed, Broken, or Difficult to Understand
Weak or unstable data connectivity may cause:
- Delayed audio
- Missing parts of a transmission
- Robotic or distorted sound
- Failed transmissions
- Repeated reconnection
- Move to an area with stronger cellular signal.
- Move away from basements, elevators, underground areas, or metal structures.
- Restart the radio once.
- Test the radio in another location.
- Check whether other radios are experiencing the same issue.
- Test supported Wi-Fi when available.
- Wait and test again when the cellular or internet network may be congested.
A brief delay is normal because each transmission travels through the radio, cellular or Wi-Fi network, internet routing, Talk2Me platform, and the receiving user’s connection.
One Radio or Several Radios?
Only one radio is affected
The problem may involve:
- That radio’s signal or antenna
- Its SIM service
- Its platform account or username
- Its selected platform or group
- A battery, power, audio-accessory, or hardware problem
Several radios are affected
The problem may involve:
- A cellular carrier or internet interruption
- A Talk2Me platform or third-party integration issue
- A group, account, or permission change
- Multiple expired SIM plans
- A shared private-network or platform configuration
Record the number of affected radios, whether they are in the same location, and whether they use the same carrier, platform, or group.
Do Not Factory-Reset or Modify the Radio
Do not perform a factory reset unless Talk2Me Support specifically directs you to do so.
A reset may remove or disrupt:
- Talk2Me applications
- Platform accounts
- Cellular and APN configuration
- Networks and groups
- Usernames and callsigns
- Required background services
Also do not root the radio, change firmware, install unsupported software, or use unauthorized programming tools as a connection troubleshooting step.
