Talk2Me Help Guide

Requesting Changes to an Existing Private Network

Private-network needs may change as radios are added, users or employees change, departments are reorganized, or communication groups are updated.

Some routine changes may be completed by an authorized administrator through the Talk2Me Private Network Platform Manager. Other changes require assistance from Talk2Me Support.

Describe the result you need. Do not overwrite another radio’s account, substitute an IMEI, create duplicate users, or change unfamiliar advanced settings as a workaround.

Changes You May Be Able to Make in Platform Manager

Depending on the private network, enabled features, and administrator permissions, an authorized administrator may be able to:

  • Update supported account and renewal contact information.
  • Change the Platform Manager password.
  • Create a new group.
  • Rename an existing group.
  • Change supported group settings.
  • Update a radio username.
  • Update a radio contact number.
  • Add or revise administrative notes.
  • Enable or suspend an existing private-network user account.
  • Change supported Voice or Point-to-Point settings.

Available options differ by customer, account permissions, network configuration, and enabled services. The presence of a field does not necessarily mean it is editable or included.

Changes That Should Be Submitted to Talk2Me

Submit a Private Network Support request for changes involving:

  • Adding a new radio
  • Permanently removing a radio
  • Replacing a radio
  • Transferring a radio between private networks
  • Recovering a lost or inaccessible Platform Manager account
  • Changing the official private-network or company name
  • Changing the primary network owner
  • Correcting an IMEI or radio assignment
  • Moving applicable platform accounts or licenses between radios
  • Adding services not shown or available in Platform Manager
  • Removing or restoring a suspended account when the option is unavailable
  • Changing advanced platform settings
  • Correcting radios or groups that do not synchronize
  • Requests involving several radios at once

Do not overwrite another radio’s account or IMEI. An incorrect identifier can apply changes to the wrong device and interrupt service for another user.

Changing a Radio Username

An authorized administrator may be able to change a private-network username through:

Platform Manager → My User → User List → Edit

  1. Locate the radio by username or IMEI.
  2. Verify that the IMEI matches the intended radio.
  3. Select Edit.
  4. Enter the requested username.
  5. Select Update.
  6. Confirm that a successful update message appears.
  7. Return to User List.
  8. Restart the affected radio.
  9. Allow several minutes for synchronization.
  10. Confirm that the new username appears.

Choose a username that is clear, unique, appropriate, and easy to identify on the radio display.

Changing a private-network username does not automatically change the radio’s username or identity on PRS, CRS, HamLink, or another separately assigned platform.

Changing Private-Network Groups

Authorized administrators may be able to create or edit supported groups through:

Platform Manager → My Group

Before changing the group structure, consider:

  • Which radios need access
  • Whether users are currently relying on the group
  • Whether a renamed group will confuse users
  • Whether radios must be added to or removed from the group
  • Whether a shared main group should remain available
  • How the change will affect daily operations
  • Whether training materials or operating procedures also need revision

After saving a group change

  1. Confirm that Platform Manager displays a successful message.
  2. Refresh Platform Manager.
  3. Confirm that the intended radios are assigned to the group.
  4. Restart affected radios.
  5. Confirm cellular data or supported Wi-Fi connectivity.
  6. Allow several minutes for synchronization.
  7. Open the Group menu on each affected radio.
  8. Confirm that the correct groups appear.

Renaming a group may change how it appears on every assigned radio.

Do not delete or repurpose an active group without review. Group changes can affect dispatch, department communication, user assignments, and established procedures.

Changing the Private-Network or Company Name

The official private-network or company name may be used for:

  • Platform Manager identification
  • Account ownership
  • Billing or renewal records
  • Support verification
  • Radio and platform assignments

Submit a Private Network Support request to change the official network or company name.

Information to include

  • Current network or company name
  • Requested new name
  • Reason for the change
  • Authorized account contact
  • Platform Manager account name
  • Requested effective date, when applicable
  • Supporting authorization when requested

Talk2Me may verify authorization before changing ownership-level or account-level information.

Changing the Network Owner or Administrator

Submit a support request when:

  • The original administrator leaves the organization.
  • A business changes ownership.
  • A family or organization designates a new network manager.
  • The existing administrator no longer has account access.
  • Contact or renewal responsibilities must be transferred.
  • Unauthorized access is suspected.

Information to include

  • Private-network name
  • Current authorized contact
  • Requested new contact
  • New contact email address and telephone number
  • Explanation of the new contact’s relationship to the network
  • Requested effective date
  • Supporting authorization when requested

Do not share the former administrator’s password. Talk2Me may verify the request and issue, approve, or restore appropriate account access for the new administrator.

Bulk Radio Changes

For changes involving several radios, provide a clear list or spreadsheet containing one row per radio.

IMEICurrent usernameRequested usernameCurrent groupsRequested groups/status
Enter IMEICurrent nameNew nameCurrent groupsRequested groups or status

Include notes for each radio when the requested action differs.

Review the list carefully before submitting it. An incorrect IMEI or mismatched username may cause changes to be applied to the wrong radio.

Replacing or Reassigning Radios

When a radio is replaced or assigned to another user, identify whether the request involves:

  • Username
  • Contact number
  • Group assignments
  • Administrative notes
  • Account status
  • Physical radio IMEI
  • Cellular SIM service
  • Applicable platform accounts or licenses
  • Private-network assignment

Changing a username does not replace the physical radio or transfer the SIM, private-network assignment, or other platform services.

Submit a Private Network Support request whenever the physical radio or IMEI is changing.

For a replacement, provide both radios

IMEI
Username
Assigned groups
Reason for replacement

Changes to SIM Service

Private-network settings and cellular SIM service are separate.

A Platform Manager change does not automatically:

  • Renew an expired SIM
  • Activate a replacement SIM
  • Transfer cellular service
  • Change a SIM plan
  • Suspend cellular service or billing
  • Correct carrier coverage

Use a SIM Cards & Connectivity support request for cellular-service activation, renewal, SIM replacement, or connection issues.

Use Private Network Support for private-network radio accounts, usernames, groups, administrator access, and network assignments.

Do not move a SIM between radios unless Talk2Me provides exact instructions. The SIM, physical radio, private-network account, and other platform assignments are separate parts of the service.

Changes to Other Talk2Me Platforms

A radio may have separate access to:

  • Public Radio Service (PRS)
  • CRS when available and assigned
  • HamLink for verified amateur-radio operators
  • Another shared Talk2Me platform
  • A private network

Changing a private-network username, group, or account setting may not change the radio’s identity or permissions on another platform.

Use PRS, CRS & HamLink Support for shared-platform usernames, groups, access, or account changes.

Changes Are Not Appearing

After an approved or successfully saved change:

  1. Confirm that Platform Manager displayed a successful update message.
  2. Refresh Platform Manager.
  3. Verify that the correct radio IMEI was changed.
  4. Turn the affected radio off.
  5. Wait approximately 15 seconds.
  6. Turn the radio back on.
  7. Allow several minutes for synchronization.
  8. Confirm that the correct private network is selected.
  9. Review the Group menu, username, and account status.
  10. Confirm cellular data or supported Wi-Fi connectivity.
  11. Test communication with another assigned radio when appropriate.

Do not factory-reset the radio. A reset may remove Talk2Me applications, platform settings, usernames, groups, or cellular configuration without applying the requested account change.

Planning a Major Network Change

Contact Talk2Me before making a large change involving:

  • Many radios
  • Several departments or operating locations
  • A company merger or ownership change
  • A redesigned group structure
  • Moving radios between locations or private networks
  • Replacing an entire radio fleet
  • Optional dispatch, GPS, recording, monitoring, or management services
  • Temporary event or emergency-coordination groups

Provide the desired completion date, explain how the radios are currently used, and identify any period when service interruption would be especially disruptive.

Talk2Me may recommend completing the work in stages to reduce confusion or communication interruption.

Information to Include With a Change Request

Provide:

  • Private-network name
  • Customer or company name
  • Platform Manager account name or email
  • Authorized contact information
  • Type of change requested
  • Radio models and IMEIs
  • Current usernames
  • Requested usernames
  • Current and requested groups
  • Current and requested account status
  • Reason for the change
  • Requested effective or completion date
  • Number of affected radios
  • Whether SIM service or another Talk2Me platform also requires review
  • Screenshots, supporting lists, or spreadsheets
  • Existing support-ticket number

Never include passwords, complete payment-card information, Wi-Fi credentials, or unnecessary sensitive personal information.

Still Need Help?

Submit a Private Network Support request when:

  • You are unsure whether a change can be made in Platform Manager.
  • The requested option is unavailable.
  • A saved change does not synchronize.
  • Several radios need to be updated.
  • Ownership or administrator access must change.
  • A radio must move between private networks.
  • The network structure needs to be redesigned.
  • A previous change needs to be reversed.
  • An IMEI, radio account, or advanced setting appears incorrect.

Describe the desired result rather than attempting unsupported changes to IMEIs, accounts, licenses, or advanced settings.
